THREE ports in Italy are cutting port fees and anchor dues by 90% in a bid to lure transhipment business.
The fees were slashed at Cagliari, Gioia Tauro and Taranto, in a decision taken yesterday in a unanimous vote by the Sardinian port authority.
Rome is allowing port authorities to cut such fees as an experiment until 2011.
Graziano Milia, Cagliari’s president, said the move “puts us back in fair competitiveness terms with some ports in the Mediterranean”.
